Step 1: Measure Curtain Width
- Find the rod width – Measure the width of your curtain rod, not the window frame.
-
Account for fullness – Multiply the rod width by 1.5 to 2.5 depending on the desired fullness:
- 1.5× for a tailored, flat look
- 2× for standard fullness
- 2.5× for a rich, luxurious look
- Split for panels – If you have two panels, divide the total width by two. If you have three panels, divide the total width by three.
Tip: For blackout curtains, aim for 2× fullness to avoid light gaps.
Step 2: Measure Curtain Length
- Choose your hanging method – Inside mount, above-frame mount, or ceiling mount.
- Decide on the finish – Sill length, apron length, or floor length (even puddle style).
- Measure from rod to finish point – For floor length, stop 1 cm above the floor for easy cleaning.
Tip: For a grand effect, mount your rod 6–10 inches above the window frame.
Step 3: Special Considerations
- Grommet / Back tap curtains (Used on curtain rods) – Measure from the top of the rod to the desired length.
- Rod pocket curtains (Used on curtain rods) – Include the pocket in your length measurement.
- Pleat curtains (Used both on curtain rods or track) – Often require extra width for deep pleats, we usually recommend at least 2× fullness.
